For the record, I decided to look up the stats and Michigan is the 8th most populated state. However, we are losing people to other states in large amounts because of the current economic climate here.

Hello and Merry Christmas Eve! Tim and Wendy we have been talking about you alot in our family today so I had to email you. We decided to accept an emergency placement for a newborn baby girl – we get her tomorrow, on Christmas morning. Yes, it will be totally inconvenient, and a challenge, and we will have to travel with her, and I will be buring vacation days to do this, and I had to rush over to a friend’s house today to borrow baby gear, etc etc. But we kept talking about your podcast episode where you took baby Kay at Christmas, and you know what- you were right on. We just do NOT have it in us to say “no room at the inn” to a newborn at Christmas. So, wish us well as we venture back into 2am feedings for the holidays! P.S.- our bio son (who is 4 years old) is so excited that when I asked him “Do you know what tomorrow is?” he said “It’s the day we get the baby girl”. Nothing about toys, or Santa, or visiting grandma- just joy about our new foster baby. Now THAT is a great holiday story! thanks again for the truly inspirational podcast

I’ve been listening to y’all for a while now (thanks to D & K!) but have never commented. I continue to really enjoy your podcast and am excited to hear my friends D & K following the call that Jesus has on their lives– you guys, too!!!

It’s interesting to hear how things are in different states… My wife and I are waiting to get our license (It should have come through about 2 months ago, but has been hanging for bureaucratic and holiday reasons.) It sounds pretty similar to your process so far… It’s also interesting, to get a license we don’t need to have any furniture for the kids to get a license, although if we do get placements, we need to have a bed for them. It’s been nice, because we’ve been acquiring furniture along the way. We had 1 extra bed in our house, and have since acquired another one, but I think eventually we’ll even have a third one, just in case there’s a group of 3 kids needing a home (Which is apparently quite likely), and as we have the room, why not?

Thanks for sharing this!
We’re in a very similar spot as D & K . We’ve completed our home study and are waiting for our certification/licensing and thus placement.
Glad to find your podcast.
Shalom!

Thanks for sharing your experiences and knowledge with us. PLEASE continue to do the podcast. I love the interviews and the day to day stories you share. We are finishing our required classes this weekend to become foster and adoptive parents in Florida. A few ideas for future podcasts are: How to overcome the negative stories about the fostercare system? How to build a support team? Is there a link between bad nutrition and bad behavior? How to make the foster child feel at home with you? How to answer their questions about their birth family or future? How we can build their self -worth? How can we encourage others to take the next step in becoming foster parents?
Thanks again and eagerly awaiting your next podcast!!

Jennifer – those are a lot of good questions! D and I are hoping to share some of the ways we have answered some of the negative things people have said to us soon. Glad you like the podcast!

D & K,
Thank you for jumping in when Tim & Wendy were winding down on things. I was concerned there would be no more podcast. (We just found it a few months ago!) This has been a great thing for my husband & I to listen to. We are licensed/certified for Foster-to-Adopt in Ohio. It’s been a long wait – 9 months since licensing – but we finally have been matched with a 7year boy whom we have not been able to meet yet! (You have to love this “crazy system”). Hopefully in the next week will be able to meet him & start our pre-placement visits.
Anyway, just wanted to say we love the podcast & hope it continues for our listening benefit as well as all of those out there still considering whether they should consider getting involved.
Thanks again.

Thanks for featuring Michigan foster parents! My husband and I are actually getting our fingerprinting today and our final homestudy for Foster Care in Michigan (ages 0-4 with the prospect of two siblings – very similar to D&K’s situation). I look forward to hearing more from them and you as well!! xoxoxo
