I just found your podcast last week and have really enjoyed what I've heard. I almost didn't listen as we do not consider ourselves foster parents anymore. All 4 of our children are bio sibs - though they all joined our family separately. We are currently in the final stages of #4's adoption. Though we are living in California now - we are dealing with the childrens' birth state so it seems pretty different from your experience so far.
I just requested 3 books at our library - thanks to your podcast. We are really struggling right now with one of the children and something you mentioned in a previous podcast seemed to be just for me. Thank you!
If you have more books to recommend, I'd be excited to hear them!
Thank you again for sharing your experiences and educating others!

Congrats on the paper signing! It's certainly been interesting to hear your adventures in the world of Foster Care! What do you guys plan on doing in terms of foster care once the adoption process is finalized?

Hi Tim!!!! My old friend. . . it's been so good for me to get back in contact with you and I'm so thrilled that you are a fellow foster parent. We too just signed a.p.a. last week, name change, SRS subsidy negotiations. It sounds like the papers you signed were similar, but the federal adoption assistance might be a bit different. We are getting $500 per month plus the medical all of which are payable until she is 18 years of age. $500 is the max you get unless there is a physical or mental need that would require SSI to kick in. The amount is always able to be renegotiated at any time should you see the need. We didn't hear anything about the amount increasing with age. We were thrilled to not have to negotiate any amount as the coordinator just wrote down the max amount and had us sign off on it. We should be finalizing all by the middle of July. I'm so happy for you guys and would love to catch up with you sometime to see your perspective on a biological family member that we are having some issues with. Thanks for finding me and letting me know about your podcast!!!
